Competition types

  • The Betterball app caters for a growing list of competition types:

Handicaps

  • The Handicap Index (HI) is displayed with 1 decimal place. Tap the hamburger menu > Account Settings, Handicap to update your HI — it applies to every club you've joined. DO NOT enter the Course Handicap: the app will work it out. More below.
  • The Course Handicap (CH), based on the Course Rating and Slope Rating of the Course and Tees chosen for a round, is calculated by the app and displayed with 1 decimal place. Course Handicap = Handicap Index X (Slope Rating / 113) + (Course Rating - Par)
  • The Playing Handicap (PH) is displayed with 1 decimal place. In betterball, the PH = 90% of the CH, in foursomes the team's PH = 50% of the sum of both players' CHs, in greensomes, the PH = 60% of the lower CH plus 40% of the higher CH, in singles the PH = 100% of the CH.
  • Matchplay Handicap (MH): the lowest handicap in the match goes to 0 and the others are reduced pro rata. Rounding only occurs at the final step, when the MH is calculated.
  • In Stableford competitions, each player's Playing Handicap = Course Handicap X the round's Handicap Allowance (85% by default, but it can be adjusted), rounded to a whole number. You get your strokes on your own tee's stroke index holes, and you play against the whole field rather than against an opponent.

Scoring

  • Each fourball assigns one player to keep the score in the app, and another to keep a written scorecard.
  • To score: On the Home / Teams Leaderboard page, tap Tee Times & Scoring > on the Matches page tap your match > tap Start Scoring.
  • Tap the grey predicted Net par number to accept that score: in other words to confirm it as the actual gross score, or tap the + and - to adjust. Gross scores turn red when confirmed and Net scores turn green. All scoring requires a deliberate action by the scorer. Grey numbers are not scored. The grey number is Net Par from the player's own handicap, and the + stops at 10 over Net Par. Scorers only enter Gross scores and the app calculates everything else.
  • Nearest The Pin and Longest Drive for betterball, greensomes and singles rounds: Move the marker to your ball and write your name on the card. The last fourball must collect the markers. IN ADDITION, in the app, the Scorer must remember to claim Nearest The Pin (NTP) and Longest Drive (LD) if a player in the fourball beats the field. Look out for the green NTP and Longest Drive buttons that will pop up on the chosen holes. If a claim goes to the wrong player, an Organiser can tap it on the Nearest The Pin / Longest Drive page and replace the name or add a new name. The change is recorded under the claim, and the claim keeps its original place in the order.
  • Once you've entered the correct scores, NTPs and LDs for every player on every hole, and you've double-checked the scores against the written scorecard, tap Submit. This locks the card for everyone, including the Scorer. If something needs correcting afterwards, an Organiser can tap Reopen Round to hand it back to the Scorer. An Organiser can also edit any Gross score directly on the Scorecard.
  • While the round is open, any fourball member can tap Replace Scorer to take over the role of Scorer. Replace Scorer greys out once the card is submitted, and works again once an Organiser reopens it.
  • All other players in the Club can monitor any match score in real time, view-only.
  • In a Matchplay game, a Net 9 beats a Net 10, so you must enter actual Gross scores until the hole is decided. If a player blows out, picks up and surrenders the hole, and the score does not affect the Matchplay result, the Scorer can enter a Net Double Bogey.
  • Stableford rounds are scored on points, not holes won. Points are awarded per hole against your Net score: double bogey or worse earns 0, bogey 1, par 2, birdie 3, eagle 4, albatross 5. In Betterball Stableford the best 1 of the team's 2 players counts on each hole; in Alliance (Two to Count) the best 2 of the team's 4 players count. The Scorer still enters only Gross scores and the app works out the strokes, the Net score and the points. If a player blows out or picks up, enter a Net Double Bogey for zero points.

Realtime Monitoring

  • Go to the Home page > Comp tab to view the overall status of the competition in real time. Tap any match card to see the scorecard update in real time. Tap the Individual Leaderboard and Nearest The Pin / Longest Drive icons top-right for realtime updates.
  • The Individual Leaderboard shows rounds in which every player plays their own ball through the green - betterball, singles and both Stableford formats. In matchplay competitions, foursomes and greensomes rounds are excluded. Tap the Adjusted Gross, Adjusted Net and Net +/- columns to sort and tap again to reverse the sort order. In matchplay competitions, the Points tab shows team points earned by every player in every round, and the aggregate. The Comp tab shows overall leaders by team points earned: ties are broken firstly by the aggregate Adjusted Net then by Adjusted Gross in all rounds of the competition. Tap the headers to sort and tap again to reverse the sort order.
  • Nearest The Pin / Longest Drive shows details for any Stableford round and in matchplay competitions for rounds in betterball, greensomes or singles formats, in which every player tees off. Foursomes rounds are excluded.
  • In a Matchplay competition the Teams Leaderboard is a table with one row per team and a column for the Total plus one for each round, so it reads the same whether you have two teams or five. Every match is between two of those teams, and the match points go to one or both of those teams: a win earns 1 point and a draw earns 1/2 a point for each team.
  • In a Stableford competition the Teams Leaderboard is a single ranked list: Rank, Team, Holes played, ⇅ (points against par) and Points. Teams are ranked on ⇅: the points they have scored against what net par would have earned over the holes they have played - 2 points a hole for each ball that counts - so +3 means 3 points better than par so far, and E means level. That keeps the order fair while teams are at different stages of the round, and once everyone has finished it is simply the order of total Points. Teams that have not started yet stay at the bottom of the list, with no rank. Teams level are separated by countback - the best last nine (holes 10 to 18), then the last six (13 to 18), then the last three (16 to 18), then hole 18. Teams still level share a rank: T3, for example.

Matchplay vs Individual Scorecards

  • Matchplay scorecards show actual Gross scores, while the individual scorecards also show Adjusted Gross and Adjusted Net scores, based on the Course Handicap. Adjusted Gross = the actual score capped at a maximum Net Double Bogey. The Adjusted Gross total is the score you enter for handicapping purposes under the World Handicapping System (linked in-app to the USGA rules PDF).

Matches

Matchplay Matches

  • Organisers add matches for each round: they will be numbered in sequence starting with 1. The matches will be identified by the round and match numbers: for example, "Round 2, Match 3".
  • In matchplay competitions with more than two teams, first pick the two teams that are playing this match, then pick the players. In a Two Teams competition, matches are always between Team 1 and Team 2, so there's no team choice to make.
  • For Betterball, Foursomes and Greensomes, pick two players per team, check or adjust the tee time and starting hole, then tap Add. The default interval between tee times for this round will set the starting time for Match 2, and so on, but edit that if necessary.
  • For Singles matches, pick one player per team. The matches will also be numbered in sequence starting with 1. By default, Match 2 will have the same starting time and hole as Match 1, and the matches will be grouped in a fourball. Match 3 and 4 will be grouped, and so on. If you edit the starting time or hole for either match, they will be separated.
  • In matchplay, every match is head-to-head between two teams, whatever the competition's team count. Any player in the club can be picked, including Guest Players. A player can only be in one match per round, so the dropdown listing players excludes anyone already picked for another match in that round.
  • If you set any round up for a shotgun start, the first fourball will be on the first hole (or any other hole you select), and the second fourball will be on the next hole.
  • Match numbers are set automatically in sequence. Use the up and down arrows on the match card to reorder matches. Deleting a match automatically renumbers the rest. Once scoring has started on a match, its starting hole, teams and players are locked, because the scores already entered belong to those players; its tee time can still be changed.

Stableford Teams

  • In a Stableford competition this page is called Teams, and there are no opposing sides. Organisers tap the + icon top-right to add teams, which will be numbered in sequence starting with 1, for example Team 1, Team 2, etc.
  • For Stableford Alliance (Two to Count) pick four players per team, check or adjust the tee time and starting hole, then tap Add. The default interval between tee times for this round will set the starting time for Team 2, and so on, but edit that if necessary. Short teams are allowed - a team with an empty slot simply has fewer scores to count from. Any player in the club can be picked, including Guest Players, and a player can only be in one team.
  • For Betterball Stableford pick two players per team, check or adjust the tee time and starting hole, then tap Add. The teams will also be numbered in sequence starting with 1. By default, Team 2 will have the same starting time and hole as Team 1, and the teams will be grouped in a fourball with a single Scorer. Team 3 and 4 will be grouped, and so on. If you edit the starting time or hole for either team, they will be separated.
  • Each player has their own Tee dropdown, so a team can have a mix of two different tees: the app works out each player's Course Handicap and strokes from the tee they actually play. A player's tee can still be changed after the team has teed off, right up until its scorecard is submitted, and again if the card is reopened; a change made once scoring has started is recorded in the Round Log at the bottom of the scorecard.
  • Any player in the club can be picked, including Guest Players. A player can only be in one team, so the dropdown listing players excludes anyone already picked for another team. Once scoring has started on a team, its starting hole and players are locked, because the scores already entered belong to those players; its tee time can still be changed, and so can each player's tee until the card is submitted.
  • If you set any round up for a shotgun start, the first fourball will be on the first hole (or any other hole you select), and the second fourball will be on the next hole.
  • Team numbers are set automatically in sequence. Use the up and down arrows on the team card to reorder teams. Deleting a team automatically renumbers the rest.

How to Score

  • Each fourball assigns one player to keep the score in the app, and another to keep a written scorecard.
  • To score: On the Home / Teams Leaderboard page, tap Tee Times & Scoring > on the Matches or Teams page tap your match or team > tap Start Scoring.
  • Tap the grey predicted Net par number to accept that score, in other words to confirm it as the actual Gross score, or tap the + and - to adjust.
  • Each row starts with a narrow four-cell column. The two red cells show the actual Gross strokes for the holes played so far, and that total against par. The two green cells show the same for Adjusted Net, which caps each hole at a Net Double Bogey. The against-par cells read E for level, +3 for three over, -2 for two under. All four count up to the hole you are looking at, so stepping back through the holes shows how the round unfolded, and the bottom cell is the same figure as the Net +/- column on the scorecard. In Foursomes and Greensomes the two players share one ball, so the column shows the team's figures.
If a claim goes to the wrong player, an Organiser can tap it on the Nearest The Pin / Longest Drive page and replace the name or add a name.
All other players in the Club can monitor any match score in real time, view-only.
  • In a Matchplay round, a Net 9 beats a Net 10, so you must enter actual Gross scores until the hole is decided. If a player blows out, picks up and surrenders the hole, and the score does not affect the Matchplay result, the Scorer can enter a Net Double Bogey.

Stableford Scoring

  • Stableford rounds score points, not holes won. Enter Gross scores exactly as you would in a Matchplay round and the app works out the strokes, the Net score and the points.
  • Points per hole, measured against your Net score: double bogey or worse earns 0, bogey 1, par 2, birdie 3, eagle 4, albatross 5. Your points for the hole appear as a small blue number at the bottom left of your Net score.
  • The team's score for a hole is the best 1 of its 2 players in Betterball Stableford, or the best 2 of its 4 players in Alliance (Two to Count). Hole shows the team's points for the current hole and Round shows the running total.
  • If you blow out or pick up, enter a Net Double bogey for zero points.
  • Nearest The Pin and Longest Drive work exactly as they do in Matchplay rounds, and you still tap Submit once the card is complete and checked against the written scorecard.

The Buttons Below the Scores

  • The eight buttons below the scores are in two rows. The top row belongs to one match or team: Scorecard opens its scorecard, Holes Rem counts the holes still to be scored, Hole shows the result of the hole you are on, and Round shows the match status so far. A Singles fourball or a pair of Betterball Stableford teams gets one of these rows each, so both cards stay reachable.
  • The bottom row applies to the fourball: Leaderboard, NTP/LD, Units and Submit. The NTP/LD slot is empty except on the holes set up for Nearest The Pin or Longest Drive.
  • Anyone on the card can tap NTP/LD to see who has claimed the hole, at any time, including after the card has been submitted. Only the Scorer can enter a claim, and claims lock when the card is submitted - the same rule as Units.

Units

  • Units are for the side bets your group agrees before you tee off - agree on the number of units for birdies, Nearest The Pin, Longest Drive, or whatever you decide between you.
  • The app deliberately does not track what earned a unit, only how many. Tap Units, use the - and + next to each name to add units for the hole you are on, then tap Save. The Round column shows each player's or team's running total for the round. Betterball, Foursomes and Greensomes have one row per team; Singles and Stableford have one row per player.
  • Only the Scorer can change units, and they lock when the card is submitted. Anyone can open the Units popup to see the totals.

Reopening a Card and the Round Log

  • Submitting is not final, but only an Organiser can undo it. Once a card is submitted it is locked for everyone in the fourball, including the Scorer, and the Replace Scorer button greys out. An Organiser sees Reopen Round where the Submit button was.
  • Reopening hands the card back to the original Scorer, who alone can correct the scores - not the Organiser who reopened it, unless they are also the Scorer. Replace Scorer becomes active again for the other three players, so someone else can take over if the Scorer has left.
  • The Round Log at the bottom of the page records who submitted the card, every reopen, every change of Scorer, and every score changed after a reopen. Changes to units are not recorded, because they are a social side bet rather than part of the result.

Note: Foursomes has no NTP/LD side contests — only one player per team drives each hole in that format — so its Enter Scores screen omits the NTP/LD UI even though it shares this same help page.

Individual Leaderboard

Leaderboard Screen

Leaderboard for a Ryder Cup-type competition

Individual Leaderboards

  • The Individual Leaderboard shows rounds in which every player plays their own ball through the green - betterball, singles and both Stableford formats. Foursomes and greensomes rounds are excluded. Tap the Adjusted Gross, Adjusted Net and Net +/- columns to sort and tap again to reverse the sort order.
  • In matchplay competitions, the Points tab shows team points earned by every player in every round, and the aggregate. The Comp tab shows overall leaders by team points earned: ties are broken firstly by the aggregate Adjusted Net then by Adjusted Gross in all rounds of the competition. Tap the headers to sort and tap again to reverse the sort order.
  • In a Stableford round the table gains a Pts column showing each player's own Stableford points for the round, and it is sorted by Pts, highest first, by default. Tap any column header to re-sort and tap again to reverse. The Points and Comp tabs are hidden in a Stableford competition: they aggregate team Matchplay points across rounds, and a Stableford competition has one round and no Matchplay points.

Players

Club and Player Profiles

  • Organisers: tap the Club Name or Club Code to edit. Randomly generated codes are more secure. New members need the exact Club Name (pay attention to Upper and lower case) and Club Code to join the club.
  • Players: Tap to edit your Username (it must be unique in your club) or Handicap Index. DO NOT enter a Course Handicap or Playing Handicap. The app calculates those automatically. Go back to the hamburger menu, tap Account Settings, Handicap to edit your First Name, Last Name, email address, Handicap Index or preferred tees, to switch competition notifications on or off, to change your PIN or to delete your account.
  • So, you can edit your Handicap Index in two places: changes in either place will apply across every club you've joined.
  • Organisers can edit a player's Username or Handicap Index: the changed Handicap Index will apply only in that Organiser's club. Usernames can differ from one club to the next.
  • Any member of a club can add Guest Players: tap the + icon top-right > enter the First Name, Last Name, Username (unique to the club), Handicap Index and Preferred Tee (one must be chosen) > tap Add. Guest Players can't score matches but they can be converted to full Club access: install the app and register, then on the Club Hub tap Join a Club > enter the exact Club Name (pay attention to Upper and lower case), Club Code and the exact Username under their Guest profile. If the Username matches, they will keep their past competition and social games data on their profile.
  • Any member can also tap a Guest Player to edit their First Name, Last Name, Username, Handicap Index or preferred tees, for example before a Social Game. A full member's Username and Handicap Index can only be edited by that member or an Organiser.

Courses

Courses

  • Organisers add Course Cards for the courses played by the club. Click the + icon top-right > pick a course from the Course Library or tap Create New Course > enter the details > tap Save. Organisers can edit courses, including those downloaded from the Course Library: Tap the course name > tap Edit to edit the name, country or city > tap Save. Tap the pencil icon below each tee to edit the Course Rating, Slope Rating, tee name, par and stroke indexes or distance for each hole > tap Save. Tap Add Tee at the bottom of the course card to add a set of tees.
  • One Course Card is shared by every round ever played on that course, so edit it with care. Par and stroke index decide how many strokes each player gets, so changing them changes every round still being played on that course, straight away - the app asks you to confirm first. A round that has already been submitted, or a social game that has been closed, keeps the card it was played off, so its scores never move. Once any round or social game has been set up on a course, its tees can no longer be deleted, because the other tees would move and those rounds would end up on the wrong one. Add a corrected tee instead.

Competitions

Competitions

  • Organisers add competitions: Click the + icon top-right, then choose the Type at the top of the page. There are six: Alliance (Two to Count) and Betterball Stableford for a points competition, or Two, Three, Four and Five Teams for a Matchplay competition. The Type decides which fields appear below it, so pick it first. Everything is set up on this one page and saved with a single tap of Save.
  • The Type is locked once the competition is created, so choose carefully. The one exception: a Stableford competition can be switched between Alliance and Betterball Stableford in Edit Competition, but only until its first team is added. Editing a competition afterwards uses this same page, so everything below works the same way there.
  • For a Stableford competition, give it a name and then fill in the round details straight away: course (or tap + Add / Import Course to get one from the Course Library), tee, date, handicap allowance, starting time and the interval between tee times. There are no competition-level teams and no roster here - teams are built later on the Teams page, reached from Tee Times & Scoring, and the Type already decides their size: Betterball Stableford is teams of 2 with the best 1 counting, Alliance (Two to Count) is teams of 4 with the best 2 counting. A Stableford competition has only one round, so there is no Add Round button.
  • A Stableford round has a Handicap Allowance field, set to 85% by default - the standard allowance for Four-Ball Stableford, but this can be changed. Each player's Playing Handicap = Course Handicap X the allowance, rounded. The allowance locks as soon as anyone starts scoring, because changing it would rewrite every point already scored, so correct any mistake before the first tee-off.
  • A round's course and selected tee stay changeable until someone starts scoring it, so a wrong pick can still be corrected on the morning. The format locks earlier, as soon as the round has matches, because it decides how many players a match holds. Changing the course recalculates every player's handicap, drops any nearest the pin hole that is not a par 3 on the new tee, and in a Stableford competition clears the per player tee choices so you can pick them again.
  • For a Matchplay competition, give it a name, then overwrite the default team names and colours with your own. Under Assign Players, tap the Total row to open the roster grid, then tap the circles beside each player to assign them to a team; tap Collapse when you are done. The Total row shows a running count per team whether the grid is open or closed. Team names, colours and rosters can still be changed after the competition is created; the number of teams cannot.
  • Round 1's fields appear below the roster, and + Add Round adds more without leaving the page - so a multi-round competition is set up in one continuous scroll and saved once. Use the bin icon beside a round's heading to remove it; the rounds after it renumber themselves. For each round pick a format, course (or tap + Add / Import Course), tee, date and starting time, and set the default interval between tee times. The starting time always matches Match 1's tee time - change either one and the other updates automatically. Check Shotgun Start if every match will tee off at the same time on a different hole: the interval is locked to 0 and matches default to sequential holes (Match 1 on Hole 1, Match 2 on Hole 2, and so on); changing a match's starting hole automatically renumbers the holes for every later match. For betterball, greensomes and singles formats, tap the hole numbers for Nearest The Pin and select the Longest Drive hole from the dropdown.
  • Save stays greyed out until the competition has a name and every round has a course and a starting time.

Social Home

Social Games

  • Create friendly golf matches with up to 4 players. Choose either betterball or singles. Tap the hamburger menu > Social Games. Tap the ? icon for the help page.
  • Tap Enter Scores to score, Scorecard to view, or Individual NTP/LD for individual stats.
  • A refresh icon appears bottom-right only when a game on this page could be changing without the app noticing - one that has not been Closed and was played more than a week ago, which somebody may still be finishing off. Tap it to fetch the latest scores. You will not see it for a Closed game, because a Closed game can never change, and you will not see it for a game from the last week, because those update on their own.

Social Games List

Social Games

  • Tap the + icon top-right to create a game: pick a course (or tap + Add / Import Course to get one from the Course Library), format, date, tee and starting hole, assign players to Team 1 and Team 2, and optionally choose Nearest The Pin and Longest Drive holes. Tap Save.
  • Tap Edit on a game card to change its details, or Delete to remove it. Editing locks once scoring has started.

How to Score

  • Each group assigns one player to keep the score in the app, and another to keep a written scorecard.
  • To score: On the Social Games page, tap Enter Scores on your match, then tap Start Scoring.
  • Tap the grey predicted Net Par number to accept that score, in other words to confirm it as the actual Gross score, or tap the + and - to adjust.
  • Nearest The Pin and Longest Drive: The Scorer enters claims for Nearest The Pin (NTP) and Longest Drive (LD). Look out for the green NTP and Longest Drive buttons that will pop up on the chosen holes.
  • Any group member can tap Replace Scorer to take over the role of Scorer.
  • The game is Matchplay. A Net 9 beats a Net 10, so you must enter actual Gross scores until the hole is decided. If a player blows out, picks up and surrenders the hole, and the score does not affect the Matchplay result, the Scorer can enter a Net Double Bogey.

The Buttons Below the Scores

  • The eight buttons below the scores are in two rows. The top row belongs to one match: Scorecard opens its scorecard, Holes Rem counts the holes still to be scored, Hole shows the result of the hole you are on, and Round shows the match status so far. A fourball with two Singles games gets one of these rows per match, so both cards stay reachable.
  • The bottom row applies to the whole fourball: Home, NTP/LD, Units and Close Round. The NTP/LD slot is empty except on the holes set up for Nearest The Pin or Longest Drive.
  • Anyone in the game can tap NTP/LD to see who has claimed the hole, at any time, including after the round has been closed. Only the Scorer can enter a claim, and claims lock when the round is closed - the same rule as Units.

Betterball has one row per team; Singles has one row per player.
  • Only the Scorer can change units, and they lock when the round is closed. Anyone can open the Units popup to see the totals.

  • Once every player has a score on every hole, the Scorer taps Close Round to finish the game and freeze the handicaps. The button then reads Reopen Round, and only the Scorer can tap it. If the Scorer has left, any other player in the game can tap Replace Scorer to take over, and then reopen it.
  • The Round Log at the bottom of the page records every close, every reopen, every change of Scorer, and every score changed after a reopen. Changes to units are not recorded, because they are a social side bet rather than part of the result.

Scorecards

Scorecard Screen

Better Ball Match Play scorecard

Scorecards

  • Organisers can edit Gross scores: tap the Gross score > in the popup tap - or + to adjust the score > tap Save. Every edit is recorded in the Round Log at the bottom of the Scorecard and Enter Scores pages, alongside submits, reopens and changes of Scorer.

The Handicap Table

  • Every scorecard starts with a table of the handicaps in play: each player's Handicap Index, Course Handicap and Playing Handicap, plus the Matchplay Handicap in a matchplay round. The last column, Net +/-, is that player's Adjusted Net against par for the holes played so far, so it moves as the round goes on: E means level par, +3 is three over and -2 is two under. Adjusted Net caps every hole at a Net Double Bogey, so this is the same figure you will see on that player's Individual Scorecard.
  • On the betterball and singles matchplay and Stableford scorecards, tap a player's username in that table to open their Individual Scorecard for the round.
  • Foursomes and greensomes work differently because the team plays one ball: the Playing Handicap, Matchplay Handicap and Net +/- are single figures shared by both players, and usernames are not tappable - there is no individual scorecard for a round in which nobody plays their own ball from tee to green.

Stableford Scorecards

  • On a Stableford scorecard the columns are Hole, Par, S.I., one column per player, and Tm for the team's points on that hole. Each player's points for a hole appear as a small blue number at the bottom left of their score, and the box at the top right shows the team's running points total. The handicap table shows HI, CH and PH: there is no Matchplay Handicap in a Stableford round.

Mixed Tees

  • Where a team or group plays two different tees, the Par and S.I. columns show the first player's tee. A small red number at the top right of a cell shows the other tee's value on the holes where it differs. Each player's own tee is named next to their username in the handicap table.

NTP / Longest Drive

Nearest The Pin and Longest Drive

  • This page lists every Nearest The Pin (NTP) and Longest Drive claim, one card per hole, with the Longest Drive card at the bottom. In a competition, tap the golf green icon top-right of the Home > Comp page to get here, and use the round tabs at the top if the competition has more than one round. In a social game, tap Individual NTP/LD on the game card.
  • Claims are listed newest first. The claim numbered 1 is the most recent, and that is the one that counts: a later claim beats an earlier one, because a player only claims once they have beaten whoever was there before. Each row shows the player's Username and the time the claim was made. A hole nobody has claimed yet reads No claims yet.
  • The Scorer enters claims from the Enter Scores page: look out for the green NTP and Longest Drive buttons that pop up on the chosen holes. On the course, still move the marker to your ball and write your name on the card - the last fourball collects the markers.
  • Any user can also tap the NTP or Longest Drive buttons on specified holes on the Enter Scores pages to see the claims at any time, but only Scorers can enter claims there.

Correcting a Claim

  • Organisers can correct claims in a competition round. Tap Add Claim at the top of a hole's card to record a claim nobody entered in the app, or tap an existing row to open Replace Player and put that claim under the right Username. Add Claim creates a new claim with the current time, so it goes to the top of the list and becomes the one that counts. Replace Player changes only the name: the claim keeps its original time and its place in the order.
  • A replacement is logged under the row, naming who made the change and when for transparency. Claims in a social game are view-only for everyone, including Organisers.

Individual Stats in a Social Game

  • In a social game this page also shows a table of everyone playing: Player, CH for Course Handicap, H for holes completed, then Adjusted Gross, Adjusted Net and Net +/-. Adjusted Gross caps each hole at a Net Double Bogey - it is the score you enter for handicapping purposes.
  • Tap a Username to open that player's Individual Scorecard.

Note: the Correcting a Claim section applies only in the Competition zone - Social claims are view-only - and Individual Stats in a Social Game applies only in the Social zone. Both screens share this one page.

FAQ & Support

Common questions about scoring and setup

How do handicaps work in the app?

Players update their Handicap Index on the Account Settings page (tap the hamburger menu to find it). Scorers merely enter Actual Gross scores and the app works out all of the rest. See the Comprehensive User Guide for more details.

Can I score for other players?

One player does the scoring in the app for all the members of a fourball, regardless of the format, while another players marks up a physical scorecard as a backup. See the Comprehensive User Guide for more details.

What if I lose internet connection on the course?

No problem! Betterball works offline. You can continue entering scores, and the app will automatically sync to the server and update the live leaderboard once you regain a connection.

How do I set up a competition?

Organisers add competitions: Tap the hamburger menu > Competitions > the + icon top-right, then choose the Type at the top of the page. There are six: Alliance (Two to Count) and Betterball Stableford for a points competition, or Two, Three, Four and Five Teams for a Matchplay competition. The Type decides which fields appear below it, so pick it first. Everything is set up on this one page and saved with a single tap of Save. See the Comprehensive User Guide for more details.
